19 October 2015 - Cleaning out the Sludge

We had this really good service day! We went and helped a family that use to be in the ward. When they moved they tried to sell their house but it wouldn't sell so they ended up renting it out and it was as bad as the BARN next door.. So they had all the missionaries come and clean up the house. It was bad but nothing that I hadn't seen before. But anyways we scrubbed bathrooms and walls and trim and everything. The member said "renting isn't bad as along as you can check in on the house monthly." Then the house wouldn't have gotten as dirty and out of hand. But it made me think of our lives, if we don't watch closely what we allow in our lives it will get out of hand before we know it! We have to weekly and if possible daily check in on our spiritual cleanliness. That is the purpose of sacrament meeting so we then can clean up the mess right after it happens. I just love how wonderful and perfect Jesus Christ has made this church! So this week think of something you can change, or something you can stop doing to clean up your act. Because we are so much happier and filled with the spirit when we are clean! All yall do my a favor and listen to the Taylor Swift song called Clean. Sorry it's short...

Love yall Sister Kerr

12 October 2015 - Alexandria Sister Life!

I love my mission. I honestly cannot believe I am 7 months in. It really is flying by and I can't imagine it ending. There is just too much to do, too much to change and too many people to love. It is an exciting work! I have been really struggling with over complicating everything, I think its because I am a bit of a perfectionist haha. But I really came to realize the importance of seeing everything from our Heavenly Fathers perspective. Sometimes we allow the little things to matter way to much when in the long run they will never ever count or matter. I am here because I want to be. I am here because I love my Savior. I am here because God asked me to come here one morning in Altmar, NY when I was pouring out my heart to Him and asking what it was that He truly needed me to do. I am beyond grateful for that morning, it has literally changed my life! I think of all the things I've experienced and all the people I've met and I see that God's hand has NEVER been absent in my life.
This was such a good week! We were able to meet with Ashley twice this week! We taught the Restoration to her and she was just amazed, we left off after the First Vision and setup a return appointment. We went back and taught the rest, we first reviewed what we talked about and she was so confused why there were to Personages over Joseph Smith. We then explained to her that God and Jesus Christ are two separate beings. I can't even describe to you the emotion that was then in the room. Her jaw dropped and the spirit was so strong. She then said "Oh my gosh, it makes perfect sense. How did I not know that?" It was like a light bulb went off. It was such a testimony builder seeing her truly understand. There is no greater calling than to help someone come to the knowledge of their Father and of their Savior.
Hope yall are having a wonderful week!
Transfer news is we are staying :)

6 October 2015 - 7 months in.

This week was so good! Start with a funny voicemail, Sister Irma a recent convert, she is so cute and so sincere "This is Irma speaking, please leave a message if important because time has no mercy so please don't waste mine. God bless and have a nice day." hahaha she is so funny! We found this really cute family this week when tracting! We met Shay and her sister Ashley and they both live together and have some kids. We knocked on the door and Shay answered we just immediately bore testimony of God's love and desire to guide us by prophets we asked if we could pray with them and she said of course and invited us in. Once inside we explained who we were and our purpose, they thought it was really dang cool. They asked all sorts of questions religious and random. It was so cute because they kept apologizing for all their questions and saying "So sorry I have one more question... I might not ever get this opportunity again!" They thought it was amazing that we were from New York and Utah. We are excited to go back and see them soon!
My birthday was incredible! We started off by Pop making me a breakfast sandwich and Sister Widdison giving me a flannel shirt to wear with my overalls, we fed and gathered chicken eggs then got on the road to a less actives to help her set up her garage sale. We helped out there for a bit and then met the Elders at Smoothie King, they had a smoothie and a birthday card waiting for me :) I literally was so spoiled... like I'm not sure Ive ever been so spoiled! So we thanked them and then headed to the Zoo, a less active member is the Zoo directer so we got in free. It was the PERFECT temperature! We walked around and talked to people handing out Restoration pamphlets. There was a mentally challenged man, Patrick there with his dad and I gave them each a pamphlet. It was Patrick's birthday too and he was so excited for me to give him that pamphlet as his girt. It was the sweetest thing ever! It just made me think I wish everyone responded the way he did, like they had just received the best gift of their entire life. People don't realize what they are passing up. It's really cool though because people who are truly prepared do realize it! We have a recent convert Frances, who after attending her first gospel principles class went straight home and ordered a gospel principles book off of amazon and checked the mail several times everyday. She literally couldn't wait to get it. We were over there last night and were asking her about General Conference and she was telling us she wasn't sure what time it started and she ended up waking up later than she wanted and was in a panic frenzy running to her computer to see if she was missing conference because its that important to her. It made me think about how easy it is to put conference on the back burner. Are we making conference a priority? Think about the amazing opportunity it is to be able to hear the prophet and his apostles speak! It's so cool. Our investigator Joseph has been reading the Book of Mormon, he is in Mosiah 2. He was reading about King Benjamin's address and he just thought it was the coolest hing ever that they were so blessed to be able to be guided and directed by a prophet back then, they were lucky enough to hear the prophets voice! We then explained that we are that lucky! Every 6 months we have General Conference and they do the same thing! He was so excited that he brought his less active wife Michelle ad their daughter to ALL 4 sessions at the church. I want all of y'all to re-kindle your love for conference! Learn from Joseph and Sister Frances, cherish and recognize how spoiled and loved we are by our God. Tender mercies all around, don't let them go by unappreciated!

Pop and Ms Robin threw me a birthday party with less actives investigators :) It was so fun we had Jambalaya and Smores so fun! Speaking of Smores, our cat Smores is pregnant! Yippy for kittens!

Love yall and thanks for all the Birthday wishes it truly was the best!

28 September 2015

So this was a good week! Last pday we (Alexandria Elders, Marksville Elders and us) all planted a tree in Pop and Ms. Robin's backyard. We plan to come back and check it out in 10 years haha. We have been working really hard this week. We had a couple... minor... set backs. I was sick last week but Sister Widdison was sick this week so we actually had to take a sick day and let her sleep. I was able to help Pop with his demolition of his old shed out front. I felt like I was home with my daddy. He told me that I was super handy and that my daddy should be proud for training me so well! Ha I felt right at home. Pop goes garage sale-ing all the time and got us a pair of overalls for 50 cents :) haha
Anyways onto the spiritual highs! The General Womens Broadcast was beyond killer! So good and so inspiring. We had a very less active come and the spirit was just SO strong. I loved President Uchtdorf's comment of "Our eternity starts right now." That is so important to realize. There is a reason God's plan for us is also referred to as The Plan of Happiness. It's because that is all God has ever desired for us, true happiness. I use to always think well someday everything will be blissful and happy, but this is part of our happily ever after. Right this very moment. So as we change and become we will find what truly makes us happy and incorporate it into every thing we do. I truly am the happiest when I am loving the people around me and helping them be happy. Building up the people that are torn down. I am realizing that being happy is easier said than done, but this life is all about us tweaking and perfecting ourselves. Changing weaknesses into strengths is a beautiful concept. One step at a time.
We spent some time getting to know a member this week who recently lost her husband. I was wanted to sob. I could feel her broken heart, I could see the agony in her eyes. The loneliness she feels was drowning her, but now she can breathe because of the God. She can feel a source of peace and she knows that she will see him again. I take so much courage from her example. Simply amazing and only possible through Him our Savior and Redeemer.
We set a baptismal goal with our investigator Joseph. He is dating a member and he is really liking the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It really is the Book of Mormon that is changing him! Its so amazing to me, the work that God has sent us to do is only made possible through the Spirit. We are NOT convincing anyone. We are NOT proving anything. We are NOT forcing anything. We provide the information, invite them to read and pray about it and voila the Spirit touches their heart so deeply that they can never deny what they have learned. I love this feeling. I was able to finish the Book of Mormon this morning, I read it straight through starting in May. And when I finished I just had the most overwhelming soothing sensation. I know that book is true. READ IT PLEASE! Everyone needs to just give it and honest try. Sister Widdison and I had so many in depth discussions about the time line and still aren't positive! I swear someday I will be a scriptorian. I am reading the New Testament now and Jesus is just so amazing. Leading by example and never rude or judgmental. I long to be more like Him.
I am as happy as can be and I hope y'all are too. Praying for all y'all and you're in my prayers for sure. Love Sister Kerr
PS DOnt forget about General Conference this weekend! Its so amazing. I spoke in sacrament this week too haha I spoke on how blessed we are to have a prophet on the Earth today. Its so special! Go prepared with a question and the spirit will answer it!
